Sage & Goat Cheese Scones

2 cups all purpose, or SR flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup melted unsalted butter

1 cup milk or buttermilk

3 Tblsp sage, dill and/or chives finely chopped (or any other herbs)

1 head roasted garlic, chopped roughly*

2oz /60g chèvre (goat’s cheese) or feta

1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated (or grated pizza cheese)


  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (450°F). Line a baking sheet with baking paper. 
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt, until combined. 
  3. Rub chèvre into flour
  4. Mix in sage, roasted garlic and cheddar. 
  5. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined. 
  6. Drop the batter onto the (greased) baking sheet.** 
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown. 

For topping: (Optional – I don’t bother)

 2 Tblsp butter 28g 

 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  1. In a small bowl, add butter and garlic powder. 
  2. Melt in microwave. 
  3. When scones come out of the oven, brush the tops lightly with the melted butter mixture. 

Serve with garlic/herb butter

* I  use 2 tsp The Food Company roasted garlic.

**These scones freeze very well before cooking; and bake when needed
